Built Environment Education for K-12 Schools

We believe that design education should be an integral part of the K-12 curriculum. Children have a natural set of skills applicable to the design process: a curiosity for their surroundings, a willingness to take risks and an unending supply of questions. Project-based design education cultivates these skills and fosters an ability to analyze information and propose creative design solutions for real world problems.

Learning By Design:NY - In-School Residencies

Learning By Design:NY provides school-based K-12 residency programs and professional development workshops to students and teachers.

Professional Development Workshops

are offered to classroom teachers, introducing participants to built environment education teaching strategies, activities, and curricula. Teachers are introduced to ways of utilizing the abundant teaching resources in their close proximity - the classroom, school building and the immediate neighborhood.

Professional Development Workshops may be included as part of a residency program or may be scheduled individually at the school or the Center for Architecture.
